Whilst, for many Christians, the Old Testament is a ‘clean’ part of their Bible, remaining untouched and unread, the Psalms, and, to a lesser extent, Proverbs, offer an exception to that premise. In these two books particularly, there is seen to be a connection with the day-to-day realities of Christian experience, as well as that which will uplift the soul.

This volume covers the books of Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Songs. Sections within these may be well known, but often familiarity can mean that we miss much of import within that material. For that reason alone, the reader is encouraged to study Warren Henderson’s helpful introduction, particularly the references to the structure of Hebrew poetry. I am sure that this insight will assist us all in appreciating the arrangement of the text of scripture all the more.
