BEHOLD “THE KING”

This verse is taken from:
Psalm 93
Thought of the day for:
17 December 2023

This is a millennial psalm presenting the hope of every true Israelite. How Isaiah constantly looked forward to the realization of this, and projected the minds of his people forward by repeating, “in that day”. However, we too should pray “Thy kingdom come”, for we also are to know the wonders of that coming age. Today, horrors abound in our world, vice, outrage, cruelty, faithlessness, injustice and the like, so that we often need to reassure our fearful hearts with the fact that God is still on the throne, Psa. 103. 19. The day is coming when the fact that “The Lord reigneth” will be manifest; the King will be on the throne.

In this psalm, the subject before us is twofold: (i) the Fact, vv. 1, 2, and (ii) the Features of the kingdom, vv. 3-5. The throne is the same as of old, v. 2, though not now recognized or revealed, but then, with what visible majesty will it be seen when the Lord will appear girded for action, v. 1. Then the world will be truly established. The rule of peace will have dawned. The floods, whether physical or human, having lifted themselves up, will be stilled by the mightiness of the King. His testimonies will be sure, and munificence and holiness will be manifest.

But what of today? With our eye on the coming glory, are the principles of the coming reign in our hearts and lives? We are ready for the “regeneration”, Matt. 19. 28, for such has already taken place within us, and therefore we should be living under that reign now. Is the Lord reigning within, enthroned in our hearts, and is the strength of the Lord now truly establishing our little world within? Has every adverse factor, every rising turbulence in our living been brought under control by His mighty hand? Are we proving the sureness of His testimonies and is holiness becoming His house now? Are we moving towards heaven as living witnesses of, and with likeness to, the coming One? The King awaits His coming, though now in heaven; “Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion”, Psa. 2. 6. Sooner than we think, He will be acclaimed in Jerusalem; are we acclaiming His rule now in the places where we live and serve Him?

Set apart Christ as Lord in your heart, 1 Pet. 3. 15.
