This is an interesting book which focuses upon what the writer in his Foreword describes as ‘the positive side of Christian death’. Through chapters entitled Resurrection, The Resurrection Body, Changes Ahead, Heaven – Home, and Earth Eternal, DOUG KAZEN seeks to map out what scripture unfolds as the believer’s expectation in respect to future events. Rather than handling such matters as they affect the church or the nations, he concentrates upon the individual believer and what he can expect in relation to being united with loved ones, the changes that will take place in respect to the believer’s body, as well as his focus in eternity.
However, I felt that the book would have benefited from a more careful reading of the manuscript before publication in order that one or two issues might have been addressed. In this way some points might have been clarified to avoid any possible misunderstanding. Similarly, not all will be convinced by the author’s views on corporate election, that ‘the old earth [will be] swept away; replaced by a new, permanent and righteous earth’ in the way stated, or that Matthew 25. 14-30 is illustrative of the Judgement Seat of Christ. Whether this book achieves its stated aim is left to those who might read it against the background of personal loss and sorrow. If it can be of help to such it will have been most worthwhile.
