The author has a number of books in print and has contributed several books in the Welwyn Commentary Series. This particular book is sub-titled ‘22 Daily Readings from the book of Colossians’ but embraces within that framework what is effectively a commentary on the whole epistle. All Bible quotations are taken from the New King James Version and there is frequent reference to other commentaries.

The writer clearly demonstrates the practical relevance of the Epistle to believers today, especially in the light of false doctrine. The strength of this book lies in the constant practical applications that are drawn from the apostle’s teaching. Nine of the daily readings are devoted to a consideration of Colossians chapter 1 and the author gives clear emphasis to the essential deity and glories of Christ. The remaining chapters of the Epistle are adequately covered, but not in such detail as chapter 1.

It is unlikely that many readers will agree with every line of interpretation the author adopts. On day 8, in a paragraph concerning the ‘reconciliation of all things’, the writer infers, in a quotation from WILLIAM HENDRIKSEN, that embraced within this there is not only the reconciling of sinners but also the subjugation of fallen angels. On day 13, some comments regarding ‘the circumcision of Christ’ are speculative and misleading. However, this book is well written and, read with care, will increase one’s understanding of this important Epistle. For some, the basic structure around which the book is written might also be a useful introduction and incentive to daily, serious Bible study.
