This valuable book represents the last of a long series of encyclopaedic works by this well-known author. The book will appeal to brethren and sisters alike, and it embraces every named (such as Priscilla), unnamed (such as the queen of Sheba) and symbolic woman (such as the Bride, the Lamb’s wife) occuring in the Scriptures. It is not an expository book as such, but a devotional encyclopedia, in which the life and character (either godly or ungodly as the case may be) are seen in the context of the customs and practices of the past day, with moral and spiritual principles of Scripture strongly adhered to. Many of the entries conclude with important lessons for the reader. This masterpiece of compilation brings together all the facts and circumstances around all the Bible women, often producing fascinating stories. The reader may browse for spiritual refreshment or may dig for deeper edification, while the book is also of value for conforming the life more closely to that of Christ. Sunday School teachers and Bible class leaders will find much help here. The volume is well worth the price asked at present day values. J. H.
