Some Salutary Questions

An aged Christian suggests that believers who wish to be vessels unto honour, sanctified and meet for the Master’s use, might profitably ask themselves these questions: –

1. Is it a great joy to be at the Lord’s Table on the Lord’s Day, to carry out His loving request – “This do in remembrance of Me”? (1 Cor. 11. 24). “Till He come” (v. 26).

2. Am I presenting my body a living sacrifice, holy acceptable unto God, which the Word says is my reasonable service? (Rom. 12. 1).

3. Am I being conformed to this world, or am I being transformed by the renewing of my mind, that I may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God? (Rom. 12. 2).

4. Have I turned to God from idols, to serve the living and true God and to wait for His Son from heaven? (1 Thess. 1. 9, 10).

5. Do I associate with the ungodly in order to enjoy worldly pleasures? (2 Tim. 3. 5; Jas. 4. 4).

6. Am I keeping straight with the outside world in all my transactions and dealings, so that none can have aught against me? (Rom. 12. 17).

7. Do I make a special effort to be at meetings held in His Precious Name in good time, so as not to cause a disturbance or grieve the Holy Spirit? If I cannot be in good time, do I come as early as possible and enter quietly? (Luke 22. 14).

8. Do I ever try to win a soul for the Saviour, or invite unsaved to come under the sound of the glorious Gospel of the grace of God? (1 Cor. 9. 22).

9. Am I bearing the fruit of the Spirit, and have I crucified the flesh, with the affections and lusts, as the Word of God says they that are Christ’s have done? (Gal. 5. 22-25).

10. Am I letting my moderation be known to all men? (Phil. 4. 5).

11. Do I do everything for the glory of God and the honour of His Name? (1 Cor. 10. 31, 32).

Let us judge ourselves in the light of these and other such Scriptures, as 1 Cor. 11. 31, 32, that we may not be chastened of the Lord or condemned by the world.
